Jon Bucci, executive vice president, Concannon Business Consulting, on the roles of ecosystem collaboration, Big Data and system logic when creating a unique connected car experience without falling victim to over-management.
In this video from Telematics Detroit 2013, Jon Bucci, executive vice president, Concannon Business Consulting, talks to TU's Andrew Tolve about managing the connected car experience without over-managing.
“There is going to be a point where over-managing is just going to become too difficult,” he says. “I think, from the ecosystem players, you are going to see more convergence and more collaboration, maybe some more acquisitions going on. And I think, ultimately, there may be a more unified approach to things. Certainly the branded … will remain, but I think perhaps in the presentation, there will be some more consistencies, and perhaps some standards will emerge to help ease it.”
But to get there, convergence and collaboration are not enough. OEMs will also need to step up their use of Big Data, particularly when it comes to predictive functions, something that is “a little bit outside the OEM core competencies,” Bucci says. And they will have to work hard to come up with some kind of a “logic engine” that can adjust and present content from brought-in devices in a way that works in a moving vehicle.
